On the surface, our room appeared clean, but when you looked closely there was dust and hairs at the head end of the bed, where it fitted into the bed frame (and those corners of the metal bed frame are so sharp!) the lamp shades were full of dust on the inside and the courtesy tray dusty and needed a good wipe, as did the inside of the draws. ![]() Unfortunately other areas do need some improvement. The positive for this hotel has to be the location, which is excellent for the Alamo, the river walk, dining options, the mall and other attractions and the staff themselves, who are always friendly, helpful and cheerful, oh and the bed, which is super comfy. We would most definitely stay at this lovely hotel again! The location to the River Walk and The Alamo was perfect. The staff at the Hotel (including the General Manager who we spoke to at length and is one of the owners) were very gracious, accommodating and went out of their way to please their guests. We could also see the Tower of the Americas which we didn't get to see but will get there next time. The view from our windows was spectacular as we were kiddy-corner from The Alamo. We had to wear sweaters each time we were eating breakfast or having a cocktail and others we spoke to also had the same complaint (it was also unseasonably hot during that time of the year). The breakfast room turns into a bar and house wine and draft beer were $4 each! The only thing they could do to improve that area is to cut down on the air conditioning a bit. Included in the very reasonable price of $89 US/night was a hot breakfast including their signature breakfast tacos and hors d'oeurves from 4:00 - 6:00 pm nightly. We were in a beautiful room with very high ceilings, original wood floors, very comfortable bed and linens and a gorgeous bathroom. It is actually on the original footprint of The Alamo fort. It is a small boutique hotel which was originally the first high rise office building built in 1909. We luckily booked the Hotel Gibbs from our home before travelling to San Antonio. We have always found great rates by taking advantage for their offers. Considering the history of the hotel the size made sense. * The first time we stayed here, our room and bathroom was a littler smaller than other hotels we have stayed in. However, the valet staff is very friendly and we've never had to wait too long to get our vehicle. It's valet only and the parking lot is not immediately on the property. * You'll have to pay for parking separately (approx $30 a day). We have never had any issues with our stay and I have no reason to look anywhere else when we visit San Antonio. You can walk within a block to access the must-see Riverwalk, multiple restaurants, and if you need to grab an Uber to the Pearl District you're less than 7 mins away. This hotel is literally across the street from The Alamo, Rivercenter Mall, the Hop On Hop Off bus tour, and more. Not many hotels offer this and you can go at NO additional charge. Right on time, so delicious and super friendly staff.Ģ. Texas waffle, tacos, bacon, fresh fruit, and more. They have added snacks to their happy hour including sliders, fries, soup, and more.
